All the Year 3 classes were part of the planting day at Pourewa Reserve to help restore it back to native bush. It was an awesome day and experience for all the students. We had a very special welcome in Maori by the members of Ngati Whatua.
Students, teachers and parents from Meadowbank and some other local schools helped plant at least 1000 native trees.
We learned the Maori names of the trees/plants we were planting. They are:
tarata (lemonwood), ti kouka (cabbage tree), kowhai and koromiko (shrub).
