Our Awesome Tennis Day

Yesterday we had Nick from Auckland Tennis to teach us some tennis skills and techniques. We played down at the courts by the school library. First we warmed up by doing a hand clap while side stepping to the end of the court. Next we got into groups of five and lined up behind a cone and did some warm ups again by going round a cone e.g. Olympics skipping and side stepping. After that we got into pairs and grabbed a tennis ball. In pairs we put our hands together and we pretended it was our net.

When we had got our hand net together and hit the ball over the net with our hand. Next in pairs we got one tennis racquet per pair and gently placed the racquet's on the hard surfaced court. With the racquet on the court we threw the ball up and then tried to hit the strings of the tennis racket when the ball bounced and your partner was meant to catch the tennis ball when it bounced back up. If you did that you got one point. The aim was to get the most points as possible.

After we had done about ten minutes of doing that we picked up the tennis racket and took turns hitting the tennis ball. This is how we played it, first someone threw the ball so it bounced and then the person holding the tennis racket had to hit it and the person who threw the ball had to try to catch the small tennis ball and then if you did all of that then you scored a point.

Finally we both got a tennis racquet each and found a line and we pretended it was our net. In our pairs we were volleying over the fake net and we had to try to get as much over the net in a row. It was really hard to get a lot in a row because we did`t have much room to move around. Everyone was really hot by now but luckily it was the end. Everyone said "thank you nick" and silently lined up and went back to class.
When we got back to class everyone had a big drink!

The End!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By Zoe
