Swimming Sports

On Monday the Year 3's had their Swimming Sports.  First Mr Ratcliffe called the first swimmers out.  We had races for students who needed a kickboard,  or non competitive and competitive races.

We had lots of fun watching everybody race.  Everyone had an awesome time.  I raced in the freestyle first and I came 2nd in my race. In backstroke I came 3rd. I found the backstroke more tiring but I managed to finish.

My favourite part was when I started last then I raced quickly to finish in 2nd place.

Meadowbank Tour Guides

In writing our task was to describe Meadowbank School  We talked about what we would show if we took a group (tour guide) around the school.  The class brainstormed all the things we have at Meadowbank from buildings, playgrounds, the Gully, Garden to Table to the school pool.

The students wrote in their writing books what they would show.  They used a map of the school and went around with the ipads taking photos.

The students then used PuppetPals an app on the ipads to publish their writing.  Here are some of our videos.  Watch this space as we will be uploading more videos.

We would love to read your comments and feed back.

Video to New Town Elementary, Waxhaw, USA

We have written letters and have sent videos to our friends at New Town Elementary, North Carolina, USA.   Here is a short video we sent last week introducing ourselves and school.  In Concept or Topic we have been learning about connections and whanaungatanga.  Our connection to New Town is through Miss Lologa who taught there for three years.

We are looking forward to hearing back from our friends soon.

Our Awesome Tennis Day

Yesterday we had Nick from Auckland Tennis to teach us some tennis skills and techniques. We played down at the courts by the school library. First we warmed up by doing a hand clap while side stepping to the end of the court. Next we got into groups of five and lined up behind a cone and did some warm ups again by going round a cone e.g. Olympics skipping and side stepping. After that we got into pairs and grabbed a tennis ball. In pairs we put our hands together and we pretended it was our net.

When we had got our hand net together and hit the ball over the net with our hand. Next in pairs we got one tennis racquet per pair and gently placed the racquet's on the hard surfaced court. With the racquet on the court we threw the ball up and then tried to hit the strings of the tennis racket when the ball bounced and your partner was meant to catch the tennis ball when it bounced back up. If you did that you got one point. The aim was to get the most points as possible.

After we had done about ten minutes of doing that we picked up the tennis racket and took turns hitting the tennis ball. This is how we played it, first someone threw the ball so it bounced and then the person holding the tennis racket had to hit it and the person who threw the ball had to try to catch the small tennis ball and then if you did all of that then you scored a point.

Finally we both got a tennis racquet each and found a line and we pretended it was our net. In our pairs we were volleying over the fake net and we had to try to get as much over the net in a row. It was really hard to get a lot in a row because we did`t have much room to move around. Everyone was really hot by now but luckily it was the end. Everyone said "thank you nick" and silently lined up and went back to class.
When we got back to class everyone had a big drink!

The End!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By Zoe

Tennis day for Room 19

Tennis Day for Room 19
Yesterday on Wednesday we had a tennis teacher Nick teaching some year three classes tennis skills.
We played on the courts near the library.

First we did some clapping with a partner across the court.

Next we did some side stepping and olympic skipping in groups.

After that we got back with a partner and grabbed one tennis ball.In our pairs we got hands together and we pretended it was a net.We started throwing it over our arms and tried to catch it.

Then we put the racquet one the ground and tried to hit it on the racket so it would bounce to the other person.

Then we got a racket for everyone and tried volleying over a line. After that we were so tired luckily it was the end. Nick gave our teacher some letters so we could have a tennis lesson there!!!
